Open PromNotch → Settings → License and paste the whole key. Checking the key needs no network.
Installation
Open the image
Double-click the downloaded .dmg file and drag PromNotch into Applications.
Confirm the first launch
The app is not notarized by Apple yet, so on first launch macOS shows a warning — click “Done”. Then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to the line about PromNotch and click “Open Anyway”, confirming with your password. On macOS 14 you can instead right-click the app → “Open”. You only do this once.
Grant permissions
On first launch PromNotch shows a short list: Calendar, the microphone for dictation, Accessibility for pasting text. You can grant each later or not at all — the related feature simply stays off.
Updates: The app looks for a new version and offers to install it. You can turn the check off in settings.
FAQ
Why does macOS warn me on first launch?
We distribute the app directly and it has not been notarized by Apple yet. That does not mean anything is wrong with the file: macOS reacts this way to any non-App Store app without notarization. You confirm opening it once.
Does it work on a Mac without a notch?
Yes, PromNotch draws the island at the top edge of the screen on Macs without a notch too, but it is most at home on a notched MacBook.
What if macOS says the app is damaged?
This happens when the image did not download completely or the browser flagged the file. Download it again. If that does not help, open Terminal and run: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/PromNotch.app, then launch the app again.
How do I uninstall it?
Quit PromNotch from its menu bar item and drag the app from Applications to the Trash. The speech model is removed with a button in dictation settings.
